Shangri-La Hotel in Abu Dhabi Leads People in the Capital Towards a Healthy Lifestyle
The health club at the five-star hotel has partnered with Guava Pass for a Wellness Day full of free fitness classes to be held this weekend.
Shangri-La Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi will host a wide range of free fitness classes and heathy living awareness sessions on September 22.
Held in partnership with Guava Pass, the internationally renowned exercise service, the Wellness Day programme is open to all its members to avail on a complimentary basis provided prior booking have been made through the app. The programme will be held at different venues across the luxury property and will also include activities for children.
The Emirates was recently ranked by the World Health Organisation as one of the top countries with the most inactive populations in the world. More than 40 per cent of the residents are not taking enough weekly exercise to lead a healthy lifestyle.
With the Wellness Day at our hotel, Shangri-La Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi joins the nation’s efforts to reduce the risk of health complications in the people of the UAE. The aim is to build awareness, especially with the younger generation, through a variety of free fitness sessions.
Starting from 8.30am, the Wellness Day kicks off with a Qi Gong class at the Beach Plaza, which is a holistic system of coordinated body posture and movement, breathing, and meditation. This is followed by a 60-minute yoga class from 10.30am, which is suitable for all levels. The practice will help build strength through stretching, while concentrating on alignment and breathing.
A Cardio Combat class will then be held at the Health Club Studio at 11.30am. This comprehensive high-energy workout increases fitness levels through an aerobic routine using different martial arts techniques inspired by taekwondo, kung fu and karate. The one-hour session helps to develop coordination, endurance, flexibility and strength.
With awareness at the heart of the event, Shangri-La Hotel will also host a workshop dedicated to ancient Eastern medicine practices. Held from 1.30pm until 5pm at Hoi An restaurant, this session will be led by Ram Dev, a resident wellness advisor and expert in traditional Chinese medicine. This session includes a lecture, individual consultations and demonstrations on moxibustion, cupping treatments and tui na.
Children can participate in ping pong and badminton games from 3pm until 5pm on the private beach or try the kung fu class in the ballroom at 3.30pm. There will also be complimentary face painting stations at Sofra BLD for younger guests from 1.30pm until 3.30pm.
Those focusing on mental wellbeing are encouraged to try the Effective Mind Conditioning session held at 3pm at the Health Club Studio. The 60-minute class is based on ancient Japanese techniques based on the concepts of Emptiness, Wind, Fire, Water and Earth. The approach is conducive to create a sense of tranquillity and harmony while reducing stress levels.
At 4pm, the Health Club Studio hosts a combination routine of indoor cycling and boxing. This one-hour routine is focused on building strength through 30 minutes of intense cycling intervals followed by 30 minutes of kick-boxing training. This is followed by another signature Qi Gong session at 5pm at the Beach Plaza, which concludes the programme for the day.
