Ruan Potgieter Honored with Judges' Choice Award for Team Player Chef of the Year at Middle East Chef Excellence Awards 2025
Chef Potgieter leverages over a decade of culinary expertise and strategic leadership to advance excellence at Emaar Hospitality Group.

Ruan Potgieter, the accomplished Executive Chef at Arabian Ranches Golf Club Dubai, was bestowed with the prestigious Judges' Choice Award for Team Player Chef of the Year at the Middle East Chef Excellence Awards 2025. The acclaimed ceremony, celebrating the region's top culinary talents, took place on June 2nd at the elegant Address Sky View, Dubai. This significant recognition highlights Chef Potgieter's exceptional collaborative spirit, leadership, and his ability to foster a cohesive and high-performing culinary team.
Chef Potgieter is a highly creative chef with over a decade of extensive experience in operations for renowned hotels and restaurants. His career demonstrates a profound passion for crafting innovative dishes, working with the freshest produce, and experimenting with a wide array of cooking techniques to elevate culinary standards. He is celebrated for his resourcefulness, adaptability, and strong motivation, complemented by outstanding leadership skills. Chef Potgieter places a high value on training and development, consistently striving to nurture and build strong teams that are steadfastly focused on delivering unparalleled quality and artistic presentation in every dish.
Currently serving as the Executive Chef at Emaar Hospitality Group since July 2024, Chef Potgieter continues to demonstrate his prowess in food and beverage operations and multi-unit management. Prior to this, he was a Chef De Cuisine at Paramount Hotel Dubai from September 2022 to July 2024, where he honed his culinary skills, particularly excelling in Italian cuisine. His journey also includes a tenure as Senior Sous Chef at SLS Hotel, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Dubai from October 2021 to September 2022. From October 2018 to October 2021, he served as a Sous Chef at Caesars Palace in Palm Jumeirah, Dubai, playing a crucial role in the pre-opening of this flagship hotel, supporting the launch of 16 restaurants across two luxury hotels with over 200 chefs. Here, he was instrumental in recipe development, menu engineering, costings, and implementing policies and procedures, while also actively forging relationships with local hydroponic farmers and ensuring strict adherence to HACCP and Dubai Municipality guidelines, achieving a Grade A rating. He also gained valuable experience across Gordon Ramsay Hell's Kitchen, Pastry, In-Room Dining, and Banqueting. Earlier in his career, he was a Chef De Cuisine at Throbbing Strawberry in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he managed high-volume operations, created unique menu items, and standardized production recipes.
A proud alumnus of the South African Chefs Association, where he earned his Diploma in Culinary Arts/Chef Training from 2005 to 2008, Chef Potgieter's journey has been marked by continuous growth and a commitment to culinary excellence. His proactive approach to team development and his persistent dedication to culinary artistry make him a true asset to any kitchen and a deserving recipient of this prestigious award.
