Position Summary:
The Assistant Cruise Director works alongside the Cruise Director planning the voyage grid for enrichment and guest activities, and then executes the voyage grid. He or she schedules and supervises entertainment and enrichment teams and supervises the Activities Host in terms of planning activities for the cruise based on the guest demographics for each cruise. The ACD is also a performer, and performs a featured show in our main show lounge - the Cabaret Lounge, as well as other events such as White Night, Variety Shows and other themed shows. A key part of the position is also to engage with guests throughout the voyage.
The Assistant Cruise Director assists the Cruise Director with the responsibility for Activities Host, Enrichment Staff, Bandmaster & Musicians, Guest Entertainers, Signature Show Cast Members, Audio-Visual and Broadcast Teams. In addition, this position will be a performance artist for the guests onboard.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
To support Azamara Club Cruises' mission of sustaining an upmarket cruise experience with a destination-driven brand image. All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with the AMAZE Standards, Safety is Everybody's Business, ISM/ISO and SQM standards, USPH guidelines, and environmental regulations.
Schedules and supervises members of the Entertainment and Enrichment Team.Ensures Guest Entertainers and Enrichment Speakers are welcomed aboard and made aware of their schedules in a timely manner.Executes daily programming as per CD cruise grid as necessary. It is understood that as the new digital app gets implemented on all ships, planning needs to be finalized further out with only necessary changes close in.Supervises on a day-by-day basis the Activities Host to ensure all guest daily activities are planned and executed so that guests enjoy their time onboard during the day. This includes, but is not limited to enrichment classes (arts & crafts), trivia, games/gameshows, theme nights, dance classes and more. In collaboration with AH responsible to come up with new activities concepts and ideas.Performs a solo feature show in the Cabaret Lounge every voyage with up to two performances for early and late shows.Performs at guest events, such as "White Night" and other shows or events as necessary.Socializes with and engages with guests at every opportunity on a daily basis.Ensures that guest entertainment and activities are carefully integrated with all product offerings aboard the ship. Takes advantage of cross promotion opportunities.Work with the Revenue and Communications Manager to enhance onboard revenue and communications strategies.Responsible for planning and hiring local entertainment through port agents and/or tour operators, as well as maintaining control of the budget allocated for this purpose.Ongoing review of ship's background music, and suggestion for changes to better suit the ship and destination. I.e. regional music for country intensive voyages.Responsible for the training and counseling of all the staff under his/her supervision.Responsible for all aspects of the Bingo program onboard, complies with all Bingo procedures; inventory, promotion, selling of cards, verifying and completion of end of cruise paperwork. Must host a majority of the Bingo games at each session and responsible to meet and/or exceed the target APDPerforms other duties as required. Financial Responsibilities- Assists in all capacities in achieving revenue increases in areas related to the Entertainment & Cruise Programs Department, as requested by the Cruise Director.
- This position is responsible for and oversees cost containment through the proper use, handling and maintenance of records, reports, supplies and equipment.
- Manages and maintains departmental financial responsibilities within budgetary requirements.
Qualifications:- Two years college or better preferred.
- A minimum of two years' experience in Theatre, Arts, Recreation, Communications or related field.
- Strong, proven performance skills in front of large audiences.
- Experience as Master of Ceremony, and the ability to speak in front of a large audience.
- Ability to capture and manage the attention of a large group with effective and courteous microphone techniques.
- Very strong communication, problem solving, decision making, and interpersonal skills.
- Superior customer service, team building and conflict resolution skills
- Knowledge of policies and practices involved in the human resources function. Ability to manage the international staff in a positive and productive manner by motivating, developing and managing staff as they work. Ability to utilize and administer the disciplinary action process through coaching and counseling to improve performance or terminate employment.
- Ability to speak English fluently, clearly, distinctly and cordially with guests.
- Ability to read and write English in order to communicate efficiently, and to understand and interpret written procedures.
- Manages and maintains departmental financial responsibilities within budgetary requirements.
- Working knowledge of computers, internet, and the ability to navigate within a variety software packages. Proficient in Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
