The Area Director of Sales and Marketing is based at Shangri-La hotel, Toronto and oversees Shangri-La hotel, Vancouver.  This position reports directly to the Area Manager and General Manager, and reports functionally to the Vice President of Sales & Marketing.
 
Key requirements for the role:

•Minimum 4 years as Director of Sales & Marketing, or 2 years in a similar capacity.
•Thorough understanding of yield and marketing strategies.
•Proven track record of driving RevPAR with rates.
•Bachelor’s degree preferred.
•International travel 4-5 times annually.
•Valid passport, with no restrictions.

JOB SUMMARY:
At Base Hotel
The Area Director of Sales & Marketing (ADOSM) oversees the day to day sales and marketing efforts and is responsible for the overall positioning of the hotel, brand communications and the development of customers for the entire hotel operations including but not limited to: Rooms, Events and F&B outlets of the hotel she/he is directly responsible for.
 
She/he is responsible for all the Marketing function, maximizing total hotel revenue market share, and optimization of profit returns, as well as maintaining a relationship and close coordination between the hotel Marketing Division and Shangri-La International Hotels and Resorts Corporate Marketing team.
 
Area Hotel/s
The ADOSM is the link between the assigned area hotel/s, the Area Manager and Vice President of Sales & Marketing.  His/her role is to assist assigned hotels in their sales activities and tactical promotions to optimize market share and to ensure successful implementation of corporate initiatives.
 
Travel to Area hotel/s is expected 6-8 times annually.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Marketing Functions

•Develop, implement, and keep current the Marketing Plan, Marketing Manual, Events Management Process Manual, Revenue Management Manual and Distribution and Reservations Manual.
•Guide and plan hotel revenue budget particularly in Rooms and Catering revenue and ensure accurate business and financial forecast to direct future sales and marketing strategies and activities.
•Provide guidance and support Food & Beverage and other operating departments in terms of pricing, strategy development.  
Sales Functions

•Actively involved with sales solicitation and negotiation of major accounts.
•Assist the members of the sales team and other departments in securing business for all revenue generating center of the hotel.
•Conduct regular account reviews with the sales team together with the Director of Sales (DOS).  
Revenue Management

•Work closely with the Area Director of Revenue Management (ADOR), DOS, Director of Events (DOEM) in developing competitive rates/pricing structure for the hotel with the objective of maximizing revenue opportunities.  
Food & Beverage Marketing

•Provide support to all F&B outlet initiatives through the use of appropriate medium of marketing communications.  
Communications

•As the brand custodian, communicate and ensure the understanding of the Shangri-La Brand Philosophy both internally and externally.
•Maintain active communication with and build teamwork amongst sales, events management, revenue management, on-line marketing and distribution, communications and reservations personnel so as to achieve commitment to the overall marketing objective of the hotel and their role in achieving them.  
Accountabilities

•Hotel’s RevPAR growth relative to market growth.
