As the Associate Director of Sales for transient in the Sales and Marketing Department at Andaz London Liverpool Street, I am responsible for the corporate and leisure transient segments in the hotel. This is a varied role which is split into three key areas: proactive sales, account management and team management. I have a team that consists of a Corporate Sales Manager, a Sales Executive for Corporate and Entertainment, and an Area Leisure Sales Manager who shares her time between Hyatt's four UK properties.

My main responsibility is to ensure we are exceeding the corporate transient budget for each month while balancing costs to achieve a high GOP. This means managing our corporate accounts to make sure we are booking the right business for the hotel and ensuring the team is fully committed to make it happen. I'm responsible for the transient RFP process and rate setting, negotiation and contracting ans I work closely with my team to ensure we position ourselves correctly in the market place. I am also the main contact for several consortia programs, and a big focus for this coming year is to develop the luxury leisure segment for the hotel. This role gives me a huge scope to develop my team and account management skills as well as exposing me to budget setting and revenue management and I am constantly learning on a daily basis.

In terms of proactive sales & account management activities, I manage the top 15 corporate accounts in the hotel in terms of revenue and room nights. The majority of those are Hyatt Global Accounts and therefore it is important to forge a strong relationship with the Global Hyatt Sales Force. My accounts are large and require a substantial amount of time and management, and they reward us through their partnership and loyalty to our hotel.

On the team management side, I make sure I keep a very open communication with my team. My door is always open and it is important to discuss and develop ideas together. I rely on my team to make initiative and manage their time, and I support them in any way I can to make sure they are successful their roles and ensure they are in line with our department's sales strategy. It is very important that my team has the confidence to take ownership of their decisions and to feel empowered to do more than just their jobs - and my role is to guide them to that stage.

In order to ensure that we keep our clients loyal, I often travel to visit my main contacts in the US and Europe; this involves appointment scheduling, travel arrangements, route planning and of course presentations, entertaining and events. This is a round the clock mission but it is amazing to be able to see the world at the same time as meeting your top clients and prospecting for new business for the hotel!

What I most like about Andaz is that everyone looks after each other, the S&M team are from a range of backgrounds and such a motivated group of people - we are all different but have the same goals to work towards and we complement each other. I love the work atmosphere and the vibe we have in the office, this is truly what keeps us motivated to succeed and to achieve our goals as a team.
