PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Attend to all maintenance and repair requirements within the hotel while ensuring minimal disturbance to hotel guests. This will be achieved by implementing the Fraser Suites CARE program and by prioritizing any guest related concerns.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Utilize technical skills to operate advanced electrical, plumbing, refrigeration and boiler systems; and by ensuring the following are maintained:
Guest Accommodation and Public Areas – to include clearing blockages in toilets and drains, repairs to furnishings, tile grouting, plumbing, electrical appliances and equipment including lamps, ceiling light globes, hinges, air conditioning and wall finishes.
Tools – to clean, lubricate, protect, and otherwise maintain all tools and equipment in the hotel. Ensure that all tools used are accounted for and returned to the shop and secured in proper storage area when not in use. To secure and otherwise maintain tools assigned in a correct manner.
Fire Alarm/Life Safety Systems - to monitor all systems in accordance with training provided. Be fully conversant in all aspects of the system operation, emergency response procedures and communication.
Energy Conservation - to observe and analyze energy and utilities usage in the hotel and on the grounds. To assist identify ways to conserve and reduce energy consumption and report ideas to the engineering department.
Emergencies – to be available to respond to any emergencies when on duty. Assume responsibility for protecting guests, colleagues and building assets during emergency situations.
Accident Prevention and Safety - to be aware of all existing departmental safe work method analysis and to strive to work in an accident-free manner and to create a safe work environment for others. To use tools and equipment in a safe manner so as not to endanger self or others, and to continuously maintain awareness of safety in the workplace by reporting any potential risks, threats or dangerous situations to senior management.
Records - to read, log, track, and interpret readings from meters, gauges, and other measuring equipment. To maintain a thorough log of each day's activities and problems that occur and to ensure this information is passed on to other shifts. Take reading of electric and water meter when working on night shift duty. Take swimming pool reading three (3) times per day.
Attend to the Maintenance Request issued by concerned department.
Follow the proper shift taking over and handing over procedures.
Maintain the hotel facilities and related equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
Understand and refer to the Standard Operating Procedures in all situations.
Performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and/or Assistant Chief Engineer.

ADMINISTRATION

Liaison between Front Office, Housekeeping, Security, Health Club, Kitchen and the other departments within the hotel.
Attend daily assignment sheet given by immediate supervisor.
Keep accurate completion and task records in the project files.
Keep working areas clean and well organized. Serve as otherwise directed or needed to help maintain the effective and efficient operation of the hotel.
Complete all work assigned in a safe and professional manner.
Maintain communication and give feedback with immediate supervisor to ensure that all needed materials, tools, and supplies are available or on order. Follow up on any items that may be on back order.

HUMAN CAPITAL

Help train new hires on-the-job-trainees (On the Job Training) and cross-trainees.
Provide training and technical advice to other engineers as needed or requested.
Set an example of continuous self-development.

GENERAL

Operate as an independent mechanic by analyzing problems, identifying courses of action, and implementing solutions with available resources and to a high degree of quality.
Attend meetings, training sessions and any other required meeting or training session.
Identify opportunities to innovate service delivery and product offering to meet and exceed client expectations.
Ensure safe work practices are adopted at all time and report any OHS concerns immediately to your direct manager or HR Manager.

Complete all repairs and maintenance works within prescribed time guidelines.

PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Education

High School graduate or any equivalent vocational training certificate.
Trade qualified in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry or mechanical engineering.
Experience

Two (2) years previous experience in a similar role in a hotel, hotel apartment complex or resort.
Technical/Skills

Understand and operate advanced electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, and boiler systems.
Ability to read and understand test equipment, measuring devices and safety manuals
Read and understand blueprints, schematic drawings, and technical parts breakdown.
Competent Oral and Written English Communication Skills.
Communicate with different types of people to comprehend what they want and to provide them with information.
Knowledge of all emergency procedures, including but not limited to, fire response, emergency medical procedures, bomb threat plan, water leak emergency procedure, gas leak procedures, electrical failure procedures and elevator procedures.
