JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Accounting Policy & SEC Reporting, the Senior Accountant will support the preparation of the annual, quarterly, and other SEC filings. The Senior Accountant will assist in creating timely, high-quality deliverables and facilitating control procedures to ensure the accuracy and completeness of Marriott International's SEC filings. Additionally, the Senior Accountant will use knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles to assist in maintaining accurate financial statements. The role requires strong communication skills as there is interaction with various stakeholder groups throughout Marriott ranging from senior to entry level employees.
Expected Contributions
- Assist in the preparation of the financial statements and other disclosures for inclusion in the Annual Report, Form 10-K, Form 10-Q, Form 8-K, Registration Statements, and other SEC filings as necessary.
- Prepare and own the quarterly and year-end closing calendars/requested items lists and coordinating the timely receipt of the required information with internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage the quarterly business unit sub-certification letters including: determining content for appropriate inclusion, distributing to the relevant parties, and analyzing responses from the business units.
- Together with the Assistant Manager, analyze, review, and document supporting schedules provided by various internal and external functional groups including Financial Reporting and Analysis, shared services center, Corporate Financial Accounting, and others for inclusion in the Form 10-K and Form 10-Q, in a timely manner.
- Support the Assistant Manager on other quarterly tasks as needed, such as the disclosure checklist and XBRL review.
- Manage the organization of electronic support folders on Sharepoint for the Forms 10-Q, 10-K, and 8-K filed by the Accounting Policy group.
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors to provide support for external reports.
- Manage the distribution of drafts of the Form 10-K and Form 10-Q to various internal and external parties, including drafting emails, accumulating comments received from those parties, and inputting these changes into the various drafts.
- Together with the Assistant Manager, review press releases, conference call scripts, and other information prepared for release to external parties.
- Assist with quality control procedures for the various SEC filings, including the accuracy of data and disclosures, footing, and grammatical reviews, as well as managing the calling process.
- Maintain SOX controls for the SEC external reporting process, assist with walkthroughs, and coordinate review of control procedures with internal and external stakeholder groups.
- Complete other accounting, internal controls, research, and analytical projects as assigned.
Specific Candidate Profile Experience and Education
- Minimum of 2 years Accounting experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
- CPA candidate preferred
- Specific industry experience is a plus
