ALOFT RUNS FOR CHILDREN @ ADNEC
In Support of Starwood’s 2011 Road to Awareness Campaign throughout Europe, Africa and the Middle East to Raise Money for UNICEF’s Education Work in Pakistan and Romania
Abu Dhabi – 01st September 2011 – Aloft Abu Dhabi will host the “Aloft Runs for Children @ ADNEC – Family Day” on Friday September 9th, 2011 after its tremendous success of last year as part of Starwood’s Road to Awareness fundraising initiative, which aims to raise US$250,000 for UNICEF’s education programs in Pakistan and Romania where millions of children are missing out on their right to go to school.
The run will take place over 10 hours from 8 am till 6 pm and is open for both teams and individuals. Although the objective is to complete 10 hours of running, participants can run any distance. Teams and individuals will compete for different challenges including most kilometers ran in 10 hours per team, best performance for the special runs (6, 10, and 20km runs), youngest and oldest average team age. For each kilometer ran, participants will enter a grand prize raffle for the chance to win one of many prizes including trips, stays, dinners, health club memberships and many more in one of the Starwood hotels around the world.
Nearly a year after the floods that hit Pakistan and destroyed over 10,000 schools, millions of children are still unable to attend primary school, while poverty and discrimination in Romania means that up to 400,000 children are excluded from the education system.
UNICEF, the world’s leading children’s organization, is working in both countries to urgently overcome these challenges and the money raised through this year’s Road to Awareness campaign will play a vital role in supporting that work.
The funds raised will support eight schools in Southern Pakistan, helping to purchase books and other learning materials as well as supporting the creation of safe spaces to enable children to play and learn. In addition, this year’s Road to Awareness donations will support a ‘Back to School’ campaign in Sindh province, which will use art and media to encourage children to go back to school.
In Romania, funds raised will help to provide some of the country’s poorest communities with essential school equipment, such as blackboards and computers.

Each year Starwood’s Road to Awareness campaign raises money for a different area of UNICEF’s work and over the past three years has successfully raised over a US$1 million for UNICEF projects around the world.
Road to Awareness is part of the larger Check Out For Children partnership between Starwood Hotels & Resorts and UNICEF. Over the last 16 years of Starwood’s Check Out for Children partnership, guests and associates at participating Starwood hotels have raised over US$25 million for UNICEF globally.
