ANANTARA ABU DHABI TOP TIPS FOR CORPORATE RETREATS
Get the most from your next group retreat with these top 5 tips
Abu Dhabi, UAE - 30 November, 2015: Corporate retreats, team building workshops and group gatherings offer the ideal opportunity to take team members out of their usual professional habitat to a different offsite venue whether that be a park, a luxury hotel or even an island getaway. With an objective to bring people together, drive ideas and create fun, planning these types of events does not have to be headache. Anantara Abu Dhabi’s events team has created a list of their Top 5 tips for successful events, not just from an organisers perspective but also from the view point of the participants.
- Enjoyment is the top priority
While the CEO or the money man may be completely focused on driving revenue and balance sheet results, any event whether it be a team building, corporate retreat or incentive needs to keep an element of fun in mind. People respond better when they are in a state of ease and enjoyment, rather than stress and tension. Ask yourself why you need to take them out of the work environment and you will usually find it is to avoid distraction and to foster fresh perspectives.
2. Free time
Especially relevant, for resort stays, the Anantara team recommends including some free time. Itineraries designed without a moment to breathe are rarely ‘brag-worthy’. You want the participants to enjoy themselves, to post about their adventures and their experiences, and perhaps even use your social media hashtags. Lastly, you want envy appeal and to make everyone in their network want to work for your company.
Ensure there are some activities to pepper the meeting schedule. Create an environment that bonds people together through shared experiences. Activities are a great way to do this, whether it’s a formal team building activity, walking up a sand dune at sunrise or riding a camel for the first time at Qasr Al Sarab, or observing wildlife in their natural habitat at Sir Bani Yas Island.
4. Clear Goals
Have your main objective for the gathering clearly defined and shared with your team. Have secondary objectives if needed. Make sure everyone realizes that whilst we are having fun, there are expected outcomes and there will be follow up on return to the office. Most of all follow through to conclusion, so you have measurable outcomes. In some cases it might just be a reward event where the main objective is to have fun. In another, it may be to brainstorm a new product launch and your goals may be much more specific.
5. Memorable touches
Treat your people like you do your best customers. Talk to the hotel or your event planner, about the special touches. Inexpensive gifts sometimes have the most impact, like a group photo delivered to their room as a surprise or a soft toy as a turndown gift when it’s time for lights out. The secret to great gifts is to ask yourself, would I like to receive this? Would it wow me? If it doesn’t, then don’t do it. You’ll find you are falling into the trap of doing something for the sake of it. If you’d throw it in the bin, then guess what? So will they.
Anantara Hotels & Resorts in Abu Dhabi has a choice of three key destinations within the Emirate for group gatherings.
Choose from the convenience of a city-based event at Eastern Mangroves. Incorporate kayaking through the mangroves, take a boat to a desert island for a tug of war, return to the ballroom for brainstorming or pull together a breathtaking large event on the Pool Deck.
Journey in the footsteps of the Bedouin to the Liwa Desert and visit the award winning 205 room Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort. Offering palatial luxury, this resort is a favourite with international groups for exclusive events. Incorporate a star talk under the sapphire blue skies, have the CEO arrive by helicopter, take a camel to your meeting room or sit back and enjoy an Arabian Nights themed dinner after a hard day in a meeting room.
Sir Bani Yas Island, with its three luxury resorts offers the ultimate in adventure tourism and is a favourite for groups and incentives. With its own airstrip, a beachside conference centre and a choice of accommodation, whether family friendly, African inspired or beach chic it’s a favourite with event planners and for weddings.
