Barrio Fiesta Strengthens as Expansion Continues
Opens first Barrio Fiesta Express in Abu Dhabi and will open two more in Dubai this year.
Dubai, UAE September 19, 2010: Less than a year after launch in the UAE, Barrio Fiesta - the international casual dining restaurant specialising in traditional and fusion Filipino cuisine - today announced the opening of its second location at the Abu Dhabi Mall. This is a food court concept named Barrio Fiesta Express.
Another two locations, including a 2,500 square feet, 70-seater restaurant at Lamcy Plaza, Dubai and an Express concept at Ibn Battuta Mall food court will open before the end of this year.
The first and the original Barrio Fiesta restaurant opened at BurJuman, Dubai, in November 2009 and has been very well received by the community. Barrio Fiesta has been a preferred meeting and dining place for visiting Filipino dignitaries, local officials, and show business personalities like the True Faith Band, balladeer Ariel Rivera and sportscaster Ronnie Nathanielsz.
Ishwar Chugani, Executive Director of ETA-STAR Retail, said: “Barrio Fiesta has proven to be a real draw for anyone with a hunger for authentic Filipino cuisine. Filipino expats - including business, civic groups and alumni associations - have been able to experience a much-longed for taste of home, while other nationalities have been eager to try the restaurant’s intense fusion flavours.
“The phenomenal response we’ve had from patrons since launch gave us the nod to expand the business sooner than we had originally expected. There is a real dearth of restaurants offering quality Filipino cuisine in the UAE, so we made the decision to grab this opportunity and capture the market, with multiple openings in strategic locations.”
Happy Ongpauco, Director and Vice President for Operations, Barrio Fiesta Group of Restaurants in the Philippines said: “It is quite heartwarming to know that the original Barrio Fiesta brand and products have been well-received by the community in the UAE. As such, it is inevitable that we aggressively take the opportunity to expand further so that we can be near to as many customers as possible longing for the true taste of Filipino cuisine.”
Barrio Fiesta recently launched a home-delivery service from its BurJuman restaurant. This service will be initially available within the Bur Dubai area and will be gradually expanded.
The restaurant’s menu has been expanded to include more staple dishes like Lechon Manok (roast chicken), Tinolang Manok (chicken in clear soup with papaya, lemongrass and ginger) and the all-time Filipino favourite Bangus (milkfish). In response to customers’ requests, Barrio Fiesta’s new menu will also include Sinalab (grilled sea food platter), Barrio Fiesta Rice, and, the ever popular Green Mango Shake. Barrio Fiesta in BurJuman also has special merienda (afternoon snack) deals for groups of ten or more – an offering that has proved popular with business groups, school alumni, clubs and associations.
Come November, Barrio Fiesta will again roll out its new menu for more exciting dishes to offer.
Filipino cuisine is a fusion of native flavours from over 7,000 islands in the Philippines sauced up by a mixture of Spanish, Chinese and Malay influences, giving Filipino food a culinary experience unique to South East Asia.
Established in 1952, Barrio Fiesta currently has 50 restaurants in the Philippines and the USA. In the UAE, ETA-STAR Retail Group owns and operates the original Barrio Fiesta restaurant.
