BATTLE OF BOTTLES BLOWN THE BOTTLE AT KHALIDIYA PALACE RAYHAAN BY ROTANA
Finding empty plastic bottles and other recycled materials to build race boats.
Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana blown the bottle in the name of the Earth Day, one of the world’s most creative action day against climate illiteracy. Finding empty plastic bottles and other recycled materials to build race boats was the Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana challenge with all its participants to show how wastage can be used in a ludic way.
The Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana rowed for the 4th consecutive year with the purpose of raising awareness towards global warming. Guests and colleagues creatively built boats and paddles using for the most PET bottles on the 19th of April, 2017 between 09.00 am and 11.00 am. The Park Rotana team proudly won the competition and was even rewarded for the creativity of its boat representing a green dragon. The Body Shop team and the New York University of Abu Dhabi did a great job bringing original ideas too. This event aimed to raising respect towards these items and not litter them around. Guests and colleagues had a great moment supporting the teams, taking pictures and laughing while seeing some fragile boats striving to make it back to the beach, thing that all participants succeeded in doing!
“Every year, companies create wastage independently of their own will because of packaging and showing that we can use them in a ludic and entertaining way is a wink for all our guests and colleagues. We currently try to reduce our wastage and have already saved kilos of detritus every year. We encourage our guests, colleagues and close ones so even on personal level to reuse creatively and try to recycle a maximum of our daily waste in the name of our environment”, said Eleni Tsolakou, the General Manager at Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana.
Only 2.5% of the 70% of the water covering the surface of the earth is fresh water. Besides just 1% of this fresh water is easily accessible. Around 1.8 billion people around the world use unsafe drinking water and approximately the 10% of the 100 million tons of plastic produced each year becomes ocean litter. Sea turtles, fish, seals, and other animals get so often strangulated or intoxicated in their own environment through ocean litter. For those reasons the Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana used this particular day to commemorate in a friendly atmosphere how careful our communities must be towards water and its incomparable value.
After looking for empty bottles, and other waste, the colleagues of the Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana, tied all plastic materials together and made a boat carrying two people. Among the competing participants were Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana, Beach Rotana, Centro Capital Centre, Arjaan Capital Centre by Rotana, Hala Arjaan by Rotana, Al Maha Arjaan by Rotana, Centro Al Manhal, Al Rawda Arjaan by Rotana, Yas Island Rotana, Park Rotana, Hili Rayhaan by Rotana, The Body Shop and The New York University of Abu Dhabi. Hotel managers, department heads, media, outside guests were also present during this educational day full of fun, laughter, loud cheers while the air was sweltering with the smell of competition.
Earth Day remains one of the Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana’s many CSR activities lined up in its environmental friendly plan for the year and the hotel will continue to support similar causes in the future.
