BRIGHTER FUTURE FOR PLANET IS THE GOAL AS SHERATON IMPERIAL KUALA LUMPUR HOTEL GOES DARK FOR EARTH HOUR 2011
For The Third Year, Starwood Hotels and Resorts Around the Globe Join Together to Mark Environmental Awareness Event
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, March 2011 – By spending an hour in the dark come March 26th, Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur Hotel will join millions around the world to send a powerful message about a brighter future for the planet.
The 5-star Sheraton Imperial KL Hotel will turn off its lights in observance of Earth Hour, the global environmental awareness event created by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Last year, Earth Hour 2010 became the biggest Earth Hour ever. A record 128 countries and territories joined the global display of climate action. Iconic buildings and landmarks from Asia Pacific to Europe and Africa to the Americas switched off. People across the world from all walks of life turned off their lights and came together in celebration and contemplation of the one thing we all have in common – our planet.
To underscore parent Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc.’s dedication to environmental sustainability, Sheraton Imperial KL Hotel will also share other energy-saving measures during Earth Hour, March 26 at 8:30 p.m. local time. Among them; Turning off exterior signage lighting; dimming or turning off non-essential interior lighting; using candlelight in appropriate public areas such as restaurants and bars; and using in-room voicemail messages and in-room television messages to inform guests about Earth Hour observances.
“It is evident that sustainability plays a major role in today’s world. Earth Hour is a step towards preserving Mother Earth and we all should play our part, no matter big or small” said Wolfgang Boettcher, General Manager, Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur Hotel. In addition to switching off non-essential lights, the hotel will also be spreading awareness on preserving Earth through a tower of boxes containing fun facts. Over at Pavilions Lounge, guests can show support towards Earth Hour by ordering a specially-concocted Earth Hour mocktail and/or a finely blended Apple-base cocktail. In support of Earth Hour, the award-winning Essence restaurant will serve some scrumptious dishes, charcoal cooked and omitting the use of gas, at its dinner buffet spread. Some of these dishes include Grilled Red Snapper with Spicy Tomato Mushroom Sauce, Roasted Duck, Chicken Satay with Peanut Sauce, Grilled Yellow Zucchini with Fresh Mint, Kuih Bakar and more.
