Support for s Can Collection builds on Kempinski’s greener, cleaner operations
Dubai, February 28, 2010: Corporates can make a difference to the environment, as proved by Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates through its support for Emirates Environmental Group's ‘Can Collection Day’ on February 24.
The latest in a series of activities undertaken by the hotel to boost its green credentials, it has been separating and collecting aluminium cans used in all F&B outlets and the staff cafeteria for the past 10 weeks, accumulating 41 kilograms of aluminium cans, for the designated collection point drop off.
Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates’ participation in this drive is the latest in a series of green initiatives undertaken at the hotel, which saw its Technical Director Mohamed Zeid being awarded the much-coveted title of ‘Green Hotelier of the Year’ at the Hotelier Middle East Awards 2010.
The hotel has undertaken extensive efforts to reduce energy and water consumption as well as associated operating costs, introduce a waste management system that has since been migrated to other Kempinski Hotels.
Staff members at Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates always look at such initiatives not as an extra task to add to their to-do list, but as a way to invest in the future of the UAE,” says Alejandro Bernabé, General Manager, Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates.
Their efforts have resulted in a draft Green Policy to educate new recruits and existing staff to ‘think green.’
“Every can recycled means one less can dumped into a landfill. As a community-conscious hospitality brand we feel that it is our duty to take every step we can to support the UAE’s efforts to be cleaner and greener”, Mr Bernabe said.
EEG’s ‘Can Collection Day’ was held simultaneously across all seven emirates with interested parties able to drop off collections at designated areas. This year’s ‘Can Collection Day’ is part of the 14th cycle of EEG’s broader “Can Collection Campaign” aimed at spreading awareness about the importance of reusing, reducing and recycling waste. To date the campaign has collected over 10,000 kilograms of aluminium cans from across the UAE. This is the third year Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates has participated in the ‘Can Collection Day’ initiative.
