DFW International Airport and Singapore Changi Airport sign Memorandum of Understanding for Fire Training
Shared effort to enhance cooperation in fire safety and engineering
(Dubai, United Arab Emirates, November 13 2013) –Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) International Airport and Changi Airport Group (CAG) signed a Memorandum of Understanding today to enhance shared efforts and cooperation between DFW Airport’s Department of Public Safety (DPS) and Changi’s Airport Emergency Service (AES) division in the areas of fire-fighting, rescue, evacuation and fire safety strategies.
“This agreement sets the stage for us to build and maintain a close strategic partnership between DFW and CAG with a goal of saving lives,” said Jim Crites, Executive Vice President of Operations. “Both airports are committed to the safety and security of their passengers, customers and people and this enables us to share and exchange expertise in areas of fire-fighting, rescue and evacuation operations.”
Tan Lye Teck, Executive Vice President, Airport Management, Changi Airport Group said, “We are very pleased to partner with DFW in this partnership which will facilitate a mutual exchange of best practices in emergency operations and training between both organizations. This will further develop the expertise and skills of our officers, and enable them to better respond to emergencies and crises within the airport.”
Effective for five years, the MOU formalizes the partnership between the two airports to utilize assets that will continue to ensure operational excellence and safety with the best techniques in fire-fighting and training.
The DFW Fire Training Research Center (FTRC) offers the latest in fire response techniques and research to firefighters from around the world. The FTRC features a full-size mockup of an Airbus A380, as well as an award winning interactive curriculum and some of the world’s most highly trained instructors on aircraft rescue firefighting.
Changi’s Airport Emergency Service (AES) has over the years, established itself as one of the leading organizations in Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting. It provides rescue and fire protection at Singapore Changi and Seletar Airports as well as at the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) airbases within the Republic to the highest standards prescribed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Both airports conduct their respective training exercises throughout the year, designed to have the skills and assist in the development of their fire-fighting personnel. Under the MOU, each airport will be responsible for organizing a training program for the fire-fighting personnel from the partner airport.
