Dubai Food Festival readies for tasteful weekend of yachts, literature and photography
Dubai Food Festival’s continues with Dubai International Boat Show, Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, and GPP2014
Dubai UAE, 6 March 2014: With only two weekends left, the Dubai Food Festival is reminding the emirate’s tastemakers and gourmands to prepare for a diverse and delicious weekend filled with yachts, literature and photography. Partnering with the Dubai International Boat Show, Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, and Gulf Photo Plus’ GPP2014, the festival will see a range of food related events and activities take place across the city this weekend.
With the 22nd annual Dubai International Boat Show 2014 underway, super yachts and luxury boats are not the only things on the menu at the prestigious event. As part of the inaugural Dubai Food Festival, Nobu at Atlantis, The Palm, will offer a special menu at the show. Featuring celebrity chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s signature dishes from the legendary Black Cod to a selection of sushi, the exclusive menu will give a delicious glimpse into Nobu’s iconic cuisine. Nobu Atlantis is the chef’s first outlet in the region infusing his cutting-edge Japanese style with South American influences to create a distinctly urban experience. At the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, celebrity chef and author Greg Malouf will join the line-up as part of the Dubai Food Festival, appearing at three events to showcase his new style of ‘Modern Middle Eastern’ cooking and explore the art food writing. Among the events is the ‘Friday Literary Lunch on Friday, March7, where attendees can sample Chef Malouf’s culinary creations while Greg and co-author Lucy Malouf talk about the origins of the cuisine and the colourful travel tales that have served as the inspiration for their six exotic cookery books. Following the lunch, the pair will head up an informative and interactive session discussing Dubai’s restaurant and culinary culture and his journey in the lead up to the opening of his new Dubai restaurant. On Saturday, March 8, Greg will join a group of other high profile chefs and food writers including Tessa Kiros, Prue Leith, Arlette Boutros, and William Sitwell, for The Foodie Panel which will look at how and why food became such a popular subject of television shows. The Emirate’s Airline Festival of Literature continues until Saturday, March 8.
From the art of writing about food to the art of food photography, a Dubai Food Festival strand will also take place at the 10th edition of the Gulf Photo Plus annual photography festival, GPP2014. Joining the line-up is expert food photographer and blogger Matt Armendariz of www.mattbites.com who will host a ‘Great Writing and Food Photography for Bloggers’ workshop on Friday, March 7.
As part of GPP2014, Matt will also lead a seminar on Friday entitled ‘How to Make Delicious Food Photos With Your Smartphone’ as well as host a two-day ‘Food Photography, in-Depth’ workshop, March 9-10 during which photography enthusiasts and professionals will learn all the techniques of lighting, props, food styling and retouching in order to take mouthwatering images.
Launched by Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE) to highlight the Emirate’s strong and growing culinary credentials, the Dubai Food Festival is a city-wide celebration of food that features industry conferences, appearances from world-renowned chefs, and a wide range food-related activities, tastings and events. The Emirates Airline Festival of Literature is the Middle East’s largest celebration of the written and spoken word, bringing people of all ages and backgrounds together with authors from across the world to promote education, debate and above all else, love of reading and writing.
