Dubai Taxi Drivers Appreciated by Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers
‘Lady of the Creek’ Takes Part in Starwood Initiative to Provide ‘Iftar for Cabs’
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Dubai’s hard working taxi drivers are being appreciated by the recently refurbished ‘Lady of the Creek’, Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers.
The creekside address is celebrating the work of Dubai’s unsung heroes by providing them with free Iftar meals to break their fasts during the Holy Month on 16 July, as part of the Starwood Hotel & Resorts’ initiative at over 40 participating Starwood hotels in the Middle East.
“Taxi drivers provide an essential service for our hotel, and are an integral part of the community, and Iftar for Cabs is our way of acknowledging and appreciating their hard work,” said Stephan Vanden Auweele, General Manager, Sheraton Dubai Creek. “Without their dedication, business and tourism in Dubai would not run smoothly and efficiently, and we are truly grateful to them for their commitment to our guests and the residents and visitors of Dubai.”
The Iftar for Cabs charitable initiative was first introduced by Starwood Hotels & Resorts in 2010 and has proved to be a welcomed activity for Dubai’s taxi drivers, and the wider community, since.
The special iftar packs, which contain a chicken tikka sandwich, hummus, cake, dates and other fruits, as well as water and laban, are prepared by employees across Sheraton Dubai Creek who then distribute them to taxi drivers at the hotel’s main entrance in time for iftar.
“Taxi drivers on duty regularly do not have the opportunity to break fast amongst family and friends because they are busy ferrying passengers home for their own iftars, and so we are delighted to be able to contribute in the spirit of Ramadan,” said Vanden Auweele.
