First Central Hotel Apartments grooves for Earth Hour
Hotel guests and staff take part to show support to change climate change
Dubai, UAE (March 21, 2016) – In observance of Earth Hour this year, First Central Hotel Apartments, located in TECOM, organised several activities to remind hotel guests, management and staff on the importance of environmental conservation and preservation.
At exactly 8:30pm on March 19, 2016, the hotel apartments switched off lights in the lobby, hallway, offices and other areas including external building lights to join the rest of the UAE and the 177 other countries around the world observing the awareness campaign.
Hotel guests were also encouraged to turn off their in-room appliances, lights and lower their water consumption for one hour and continue the initiative after the event. Following the beat of the drums and the melodic guitar strums, an interactive aerobics class led by the staff, was held at the rooftop as they promote different ways of enjoying the time whilst lowering their carbon footprint. A candlelight dinner was also offered for AED49.
Wael El Behi, General Manager, First Central Hotel Apartments, said: “Earth Hour is an annual campaign that majority of the hotels in the UAE observe. We join the rest of the world in spreading awareness about global warming, the effect of which we are already seeing and experiencing. I would like to commend our hotel staff for taking the initiative to organise different activities to observe Earth Hour and our guests who were very cooperative and supportive of the cause. By reducing our power consumption, we also support Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to transform the emirate into an international hub for clean energy and green economy.”
The push behind Earth Hour was to limit global temperature increases below 1.5 degree Celsius in the latter half of this century by embracing strategies that reduce greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming.
Dubai was the first Arab city to participate in Earth Hour in 2008, to support and develop initiatives and events that promote public awareness on environmental issues and the sustainable development of the UAE.
Across the UAE, thousands of people turned off their home and office lights to support Earth Hour from 8:30pm to 9:30pm.
