Initiative to Engage Community in 108 Sun Salutations on 12 October at Burj Park in Dubai
Dubai-UAE: 1 October, 2012 – Fitness First Middle East, a Fitness First franchise owned and operated under licence by the Landmark Leisure and Hospitality Services Ltd, is set to host its annual charity challenge - the Yogathon - that aims to raise awareness on the importance of healthy living and inspire residents to contribute to a deserving cause such as the Dubai Autism Center (DAC).
Scheduled to be held on 12 October from 4pm – 7pm at the Burj Park in Dubai, Yogathon 2012 invites members of the community to join Fitness First’s initiative to complete 108 sun salutations within three hours. The sun salutation, known as ‘surya namaskar’ in Sanskrit, is a sequence of movements that relaxes the body, mind and breath rhythms for improved wellness.
The event will be led by Fitness First’s renowned yoga manager Pewee Sanchez who holds more than 20 years of experience across a number of yoga practices. Additionally, a number of veteran yoga instructors from Fitness First and Balance Wellness 360 will also participate in the unique yoga marathon.
Open to members and non-members, participants are required to pay a registration fee of AED50 which will go directly to the Dubai Autism Center. The first 200 participants to arrive will receive a free Adidas t-shirt, water bottle and the first 100 to arrive will get a free yoga mat. Free blood glucose testing, provided by I-Care clinics, will also be extended to participants of the Fitness First Yogathon at the venue.
Mark Botha, Sales and Marketing Director, Fitness First, said: “Yoga embodies a healthy and wholesome way of life. Our goal is to engage yoga enthusiasts and the wider community in a commendable cause, and introduce amateurs to the wonders of this ancient wellness technique.
“Last year, we saw an excellent turnout of over 200 participants for the Yogathon, and successfully donated AED7,000 to the Dubai Autism Centre. This year we hope to attract an impressive participation and make an equally worthwhile contribution.”
The DAC is a non-profit organization that caters to children with Autism, a condition that affects a child’s speech and communication as well as his social interaction. To accommodate the increasing numbers of children diagnosed with Autism the center is in the process of building a new premises.
