FIVE FOR FIVE: FORMULA 1 ETIHAD AIRWAYS ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX ACHIEVES FIFTH CONSECUTIVE SELL OUT FOR FIFTH ANNIVERSARY
55,000 FANS FROM OVER 80 COUNTRIES SET TO ENJOY BIGGEST RACE WEEKEND EVER
Abu Dhabi, Yas Marina Circuit, 29 October, 2013– With 5 days to go, the organisers of the 2013 FORMULA 1 ETIHAD AIRWAYS ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX have announced that the event is sold out for the fifth consecutive year. A new record, 55,000 fans from over 80 countries are set to enjoy what will be the biggest and most international race weekend to date.
The final ticket for the race was sold just before 8 o’clock last night at the Yas Marina Circuit East Gate retail outlet.
“Achieving our fifth consecutive sell-out with increased capacity is a major milestone and testament to both the broad appeal of the event as well as the Abu Dhabi welcome that we extend to our customers,” said Richard Cregan, Chief Executive Officer of Yas Marina Circuit. “It’s going to be an outstanding weekend and we are looking forward to welcoming fans from all corners of the globe for our fifth anniversary.”
Hailing from countries as far away as Venezuela and New Zealand, international fans account for over 40 per cent of the sell-out crowd confirmed in Abu Dhabi for the 1-3 November weekend. Closer to home, fans from the UAE and wider GCC region will also be well represented across all ticket categories, which this year will see an additional 5,000 customers across new ticket products such as Abu Dhabi Hill, Grand Prix Brunch and The Lounge.
Despite being the largest and most international FORMULA 1 ETIHAD AIRWAYS ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX to date, Yas Marina Circuit has confirmed that this year’s race weekend will have the distinctly local feel that makes it such a special experience for International and domestic visitors alike.
Among the celebrations of local spirit and culture during Grand Prix weekend will be a Heritage and Culture Village in the North Oasis. Showcasing traditional Emirati culture and arts, the Village will include traditional Emirati performances, falconry displays by the Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital, live cooking demonstrations, henna and handicrafts. Elsewhere, an F1 Oasis with motorsport themed activities and entertainment is designed with Formula 1 fans in mind, while a South Beach themed South Oasis offers attractions such as surfing and a tropical chill out area for fans to relax in.
Also adding local flavour to the weekend is the addition of an Arabic After-Race concert on Thursday, 31 October, featuring Elissa, Amr Diab and local singer Hussein Al Jassmi. The three Arabic superstars join an international line-up that includes JAY Z on Friday, Muse on Saturday and Depeche Mode on Sunday.
On-track, fans can also expect an action-packed weekend with GP2, GP3 and Porsche Mobil Supercup confirmed as support races to the Formula One showpiece event.
In anticipation of the influx of fans this week, Yas Marina Circuit is launching an informational campaign that will see the wide distribution of customer service guides as well as full page ads detailing useful information such as transportation and opening times. Fans are also advised that they can sms 'F1map', 'F1transport' or 'F1timetable' to 6060 to immediately receive information on their phones.
