Gulf Visitors Choose Singapore for Eats and Thrills
Food and Dragon Boat Racing Festivals Are a Must at World-Class Vacation Destination
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Feasts for all the senses are enticing Gulf residents to choose Singapore as their world-class vacation destination this summer, said tourism board officials.
Gulf visitors to Singapore are in for a treat as they get their seafood fix at the Singapore Food Festival from 13 – 22 July, just before Ramadan. After enjoying palate-satiating delicacies, visitors and their families can head to Bedok Reservoir on 30 June – 1 July to witness the spectacle that is the annual Singapore Dragon Boat Racing Festival
“Singapore myriad of attractions stimulate all the senses,” said Mohamed Hafez Marican, Singapore Tourism Board’s Area Director for the Middle East and Africa. “The Singapore Food Festival highlights the country’s multicultural heritage, offering a chance to indulge in cuisines prepared by different ethnic communities. The Dragon Boat Racing Festival is a must for all sports fans, filled with lots of action, thrills and spills and is ideal for wholesome family entertainment.”
With an array of culinary adventures and events taking place, the Singapore Food Festival will amaze visitors with its multitude of highlights like Food Village, which features 60 stalls under one roof selling local and international delicacies. Little India will attempt a Guinness World Record by serving up 2,012 curry fish heads in a single dinner setting. Families can also get a behind-the-scenes tour through the Jurong Fishery Port and learn how to pick the freshest catch.
The Dragon Boat Racing Festival features teams from all corners of the world that compete for honors in this prestigious competition. Dragon boat teams consist of 22 able-bodied members who furiously pit their rowing skills against other rival teams in pursuit of the ultimate glory. Spectators cheer in the carnival-like atmosphere as beautifully decorated boats splash and race across the surface of the water. A whole range of ancient rites and rituals that are still performed in Singapore can be witnessed, including the showering of the dragon head of the boat before each race.
