Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates Celebrates the Sweet Spirit of Giving with its Annual Christmas Stollen Charity Bake
Hotel invites the community to tuck into the 360-metre traditional Christmas cake for a good cause
December, 2010; It's that time of the year again when the Galleria at Mall of the Emirates is filled with the festive scent of sweet and spicy Christmas cake, as Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates gets set to host its fifth Annual Christmas Stollen Charity Bake on December 17. With slices of the traditional German treat being sold for AED 5, and whole luscious loaves going for AED 100, patrons at the popular event get to tuck into the metres and metres of freshly baked cake prepared for the event, with all proceeds donated to Dubai Centre for Special Needs.
“The Christmas Stollen Charity Bake has being growing in popularity with each year and part of the reason is that it so perfectly captures the whole spirit of the season − in terms of the preparation that goes into creating this traditional treat and the spirit of giving associated with its charitable goal. We are very grateful to have the opportunity to support such an honourable organisation such as the Dubai Centre for Special Needs and we hope the local community in turn supports this event in the enthusiastic manner it has always done so over the past few years," says Alejandro Bernabé General Manager of Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates.
As in previous years, the impressive 360 metres of Stollen to be baked on the day requires a tremendous effort from Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates' team of gourmet chefs. The whole process involves six chefs, working round-the-clock for 55 days to prepare over 600 pieces of Stollen. Ingredients used in this mammoth task include 220kg of flour, 18kg of fresh yeast, 36lts of milk, 36kg eggs, 18kg of honey, 18kg of California marzipan, 1kg of vanilla, 1kg of almond essence, 480 pieces of citrus fruits for zests.
A traditional mix of ‘Stollen’ spices, 90kg raisins, salt, butter, almond, 78kg lemon and orange peel, and orange juice will be added to the mix, with the finished product being topped with a rich butter and 10kg icing sugar – to create this classic winter cake.
According to Winfried Helmetag, Executive Chef, Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates, who will lead the team tasked with this festive labour of love, the chefs involved are, as always, keen to get stuck into the job. “This charity bake offers us the chance to use our time, skills and creativity to benefit a great cause and is something the whole team looks forward to every year, to truly get the Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates' kitchen into the Christmas mood," said Winfried Helmetag.
The Stollen Charity Bake will take place in the Galleria at Mall of the Emirates from 10:00am onwards.
