The casual dining concept serving the North Indian specialty, the Amritsari Kulcha, debuted in Dubai in 2010 with a team of only three individuals, generating a turnover of AED 3 million. Today, Kulcha King has 9 outlets in iconic locations of Dubai and 1 in Sharjah, with a combined staff of 300 and a projected year-end turn over of AED 27 million. A market leader in Indian casual dining, Kulcha King has cemented its position with its unrivalled leadership in North Indian Amritsari cuisine.
The vision behind this exponential growth is of Vicky Sethi, Managing Director of King Group Hospitality; an ambitious go-getter and a passionate businessman. Vicky Sethi was managing his father’s business in India since 1997, before he decided to follow his restaurateur dreams in Dubai and opened the very first Kulcha King outlet. The business has grown from strength to strength owing to a loyal customer base, a refreshingly authentic menu and aggressive word of mouth.
Vicky Sethi is aiming higher with 14 new branches of the Kulcha King – the only Amritsari restaurant in Dubai - brand spread across UAE in 2016. At the same time, there is an additional emphasis at the back end infrastructure to back the expansion plans. In order to stream line operations more efficiently; Vicky Sethi plans to open a central kitchen with a warehouse of 25,000 sq ft in the 1st Quarter of 2016.
Vicky also envisions 52 express models of Kulcha King over the next 3 years and looks to take the brand to the UK and India by 2018. He says, “I think it will be tough to not develop an affinity for Indian cuisine, as it is among the top 5 cuisines of the world. Our mission has been to have a global presence right from the beginning, and we are steadily working towards that.”
In addition, Kulcha King has been exploring alternate ways to reach out to their customers and will soon be seen on the shelves across supermarkets, convenient stores and corporate offices in Dubai. Currently King Group Hospitality is in the process of setting up formalities in order to open it’s express outlets
As a company that has experienced several learning curves, Kulcha King has a well-defined strategy for a sustainable, scalable and adaptable business model. From standardising processes and systems to product consistency, logistics and back end integrations, Vicky Sethi and his able team seem to have ironed out all the details for his ambitious expansion.
At a time when companies are downsizing and economic speculation is high, Vicky Sethi believes his expansion will lead to growth in recruitment at the corporate and unit level. He says, “In a service business like ours, training is the key to our success. It’s all about getting the right people with the right skill sets.”
