Mamma Mia! Lafayette Gourmet is gearing up for its wonderful Italian Week, taking place from March 3-12, in celebration of the south European country’s world-renowned cuisine.
Italian Week will feature mouth-watering traditional Italian menus, special ready-to-cook Italian deli treats and five fantastic taste stations, where customers can sample the delights of a wealth of gorgeous Italian gourmet food.
Magnificent Italian meals are popular around the world and are renowned for being low in saturated fat and high in dietary fibre. However, Italian cuisine is most celebrated for its combination of exquisite tastes and textures, and has had a profound impact upon food the world over. Pizzas and pastas feature in restaurants across the globe, as do Italy’s famous olive oils and balsamic vinegars. Less well known is that fact that the hazelnut-flavoured chocolate spread Nutella also has origins in Italy.
In light of this, there can be no better celebration of Italy’s culinary prowess than to celebrate the very best of its cuisine. And Lafayette Gourmet customers will be spoilt for choice when it comes to finding their favourite delicacies during Italian Week.
An impressive Italian menu at Lafayette Gourmet’s restaurant will make sure of this. For antipasti starters, why not try the classy carpaccio of white asparagus, spinach tortellini and bell pepper essence, or else the faultless potato gnocchi with confit tomatoes, fava beans and ricotta. Following which, customers can choose from a tantalising selection of pasta, risotto or high-brow “secondo platti”, such as the gourmet grilled veal cutlet with parmesan anchovy crust, marinated eggplant and porcini jus, or the lavish linguini with lobster, tomato and garlic sauce. And for dessert, who could resist sampling some famous Italian mascarpone ice cream with dolce macerated strawberries aged balsamic and mint?
Aside from Lafayette Gourmet’s inspiring menu, its fish market and butchery will throng with food fans during Italian Week, which will also serve ready-to-cook Italian items, such as peerless veal, fantastic fish and beautiful beef.
These carefully selected Italian products will tantalise even the most discerning connoisseur’s taste buds.
And it will be the same story at Lafayette Gourmet’s five tasting stations, featuring various types of fine Italian delicacies that have taken their cues from cities and regions from around Italy. Included will be the Italian Breakfast “Colazione” station, inspired by the flavours of Sicily, which will serve tastes of fresh oranges and lemons, jams made from Italian fruits, Nutella with various types of bread, and a selection of superb Italian coffees.
And, of course, no Italian Week could be without a tasting station for pasta and sauces, which make up some of the world’s most famous Italian exports. This station is inspired by the Roma region, and features Italian dry pastas, ready sauces, fresh and canned tomatoes and a host of heavenly, fresh herbs, so customers will find no difficulty in creating the perfect pasta dishes.
From Tuscany comes the Oglio and Condimenti Station, which features the very best in opulent olive oils and condiments. Ciabatta bread will be made available for customers to try the large selection of oils, balsamic vinegars, olives and olive spreads, which are used across the entire spectrum of Italian foods.
The Pizza and Bread Station is inspired by the culturally rich Naples, one of the oldest cities in the world, and famous for its superb gastronomy. Available to taste will be all the ingredients required to create any one of the insurmountable range of pizzas that Italy has to offer, including fine flour, grissini and magnificent mushrooms. Also on offer will be various types of flavoursome breads from world-renowned baker Eric Kayser.
And for a taste of the world’s favourite Italian cheeses, fans will be compelled to visit the Italian Cheese Station, featuring bites of the best examples of mozzarella, gorgonzola, mascarpone, ricotta and parmesan. It is sure to be a cheese lover’s paradise.
So, come down to join Lafayette Gourmet’s celebration of some of the most influential cuisine that the world has ever seen, and experience la dolce vita at Italian Week. Ciao!
