Movenpick Hotel Jumeirah Beach unites with other hotels in Dubai in the fight against Diabetes
Mövenpick Hotel Jumeirah Beach partners with International Diabetes Federation and DTCM to launch “Check Out for Diabetes” charity campaign just weeks before the World Diabetes Congress kicks off in Dubai
Dubai, UAE, 22 November, 2011 – The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) are joining forces with Mövenpick Hotel Jumeirah Beach and selected hotels in Dubai to launch the “Check Out for Diabetes” charity campaign from 28 November to 11 December 2011.
The “Check Out for Diabetes” charity campaign was specifically designed for hotels in Dubai to encourage them to show their commitment to combating the burden of diabetes in the region. Mövenpick Hotel Jumeirah Beach will donate a nominal amount per night for every room occupied during the campaign to IDF’s Life for a Child humanitarian programme. This programme provides life-saving insulin and care to children with diabetes in developing countries. Hotel will also distribute diabetes information leaflets and display posters to raise awareness of the global diabetes epidemic and encourage the guests to participate as well.
The UAE has one of the highest prevalence of diabetes in the world. A diabetes hot spot, 1 out of 5 people in the UAE has diabetes. 10.3% of all deaths in the region among adults in 2011 are due to diabetes.
Horst Walther-Jones, General Manager of the Mövenpick Hotel Jumeirah Beach said, “Diabetes is a growing health concern in the UAE and we are very privileged to be associated with such awareness-raising initiative. This is a great example of International Diabetes Federation and the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing coming together to tackle a major health challenge facing the country. This campaign will help people learn easy lifestyle and nutritional changes that can be made to prevent diabetes and hopefully encourage others to join us in the efforts.”
