Green Globe certification is the premier worldwide sustainability stamp for the tourism industry and more than 800 businesses in 50 countries have so far met the 248 compliance indicators.
The hotel was audited by UAE-based Farnek Avireal, which currently has the exclusive rights to utilise the Green Globe brand, covering hotels in 20 different countries throughout the Middle East. The company is also responsible for assisting Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts throughout the region in meeting the standards required to achieve Green Globe Certification.
“I am delighted that we have been certified by Green Globe. I can proudly say that Mövenpick Hotel Jumeirah Beach is a very good example of a hotel committed to environmentally sustainable tourism. This has been demonstrated through a variety of initiatives. Our business and our employees can really make a difference by reducing the environmental impact,” said Horst Walther-Jones, General Manager of Mövenpick Hotel Jumeirah Beach.
“We all share a great pride in our property and this is reflected in the concerns we all have in making sure we operate to the highest environmental standards possible” added Walther-Jones.
The Green Globe brand represents the best in sustainable practice within the travel and tourism sector. The 5 star Mövenpick Hotel Jumeirah Beach has achieved an overall score of 85% from the compliance indicators. The two major initiatives that Mövenpick Hotel Jumeirah Beach has undertaken in 2011 are reducing utility consumptions and the waste recycling program. The hotel is working hard on the three key areas to lower the environmental impact which are energy, water and waste.
“The Mövenpick Hotel Jumeirah Beach is a great example of how new hotels can be environmentally friendly. Independent surveys have revealed that hotel guests are becoming more environmentally conscious and prefer to stay in sustainable hotels. So embracing sustainability makes good business sense,” said Markus Oberlin, General Manager of Farnek Avireal.
The Green Globe Certification Standard provides the international hospitality industry as a whole with a framework to conduct a comprehensive assessment of their environmental sustainability performance, through which they can monitor improvements and achieve certification.
