Deira, Old Dubai, UAE, April 2011: Dubai’s traditional hub, Deira has given a warm welcome to its first new international five-star accommodation in more than ten years, according to general manager, Michael Nugent.
Nugent said that the 216-room property is quickly filling the demand for affordable upscale accommodation in Deira by seasoned destination travellers, inquisitive shoppers, as well as business executives.
“While the greater Dubai has been on a building boom, Deira’s five-star hospitality sector has been somewhat still and we have filled in the gap to bring new spirit to this heritage area.”
An international hotel nestles comfortably into the traditional hub of ‘old Dubai’.
The Mövenpick Hotel Deira is located at the heart of Old Dubai’s early commercial district on the north side of the city’s arterial waterway, Dubai Creek.
“It is through the Creek that Dubai is able to attribute much of its success as the commercial hub of the United Arab Emirates and much of early Dubai’s infrastructure grew up on the banks of the Creek, creeping inland to the south and north,” said Nugent.
The sea water channel, a brisk 15 minutes walk from the hotel, is a main estuary of the Arabian Gulf and gives access to some of the world’s major shipping lanes.
He noted that Deira is also home to many of Dubai’s destination highlights making it a great rendezvous for inquisitive holidaymakers, destination travellers and shoppers.
Indeed, within easy reach of the Mövenpick Hotel Deira is Dubai’s original world-renown Spice Souq and Gold Souq. It also houses the emirate’s first school, Al Amadiah which today stands in testament of Dubai’s early respect for education.
Test handicaps and rest on the beach
“Golfers will also find the appeal of Deira, with five clubs on one doorstep,” enthused Nugent.
Two golf courses within easy reach, The Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club is just minutes away, and the new Al Badia Golf Club not much further. The south bank golf clubs – Emirates, Montgomerie and Els are less than 25 minutes away.
Meanwhile, city shoppers are in shopping distance of all of Dubai’s Malls from nearby Dubai Festival City, Deira City Centre, Al Ghurair Centre, and the furthest centre from the hotel, the Ibn Battuta Mall can be reached in 25 minutes, even less when the Deira metro link opens in 2011.
“We also give you a beach! Our private beach club, Oceana Beach Club and New York-influenced Grill and Bar, West 14th, are located on The Palm Jumeirah. The hotel bus shuttles to and from the beachside rest and relaxation haven throughout the day,” concluded Nugent.
The Mövenpick Hotel Deira, a Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts property in partnership with Seven Tides, has two restaurants, a bar, a rooftop swimming pool and a gym. It gives instant WiFi on log-in throughout the hotel’s public areas for swift global connectivity.
It is also connected by convenient road links to all major airports, the capital city of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, Downtown Dubai, Dubai World Trade Centre, Bur Dubai, Deira, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates. Ras Al Khaimah can be reached in less than an hour by an almost straight road from the hotel.
