Dubai, UAE (September 5, 2012): Orient Guest House, located in the Bastakiya Heritage area, is offering sitar classes for adults and kids, to be conducted by well-known Sitar player, Ustad Atta Hussain Khansaheb.

Ustad Atta Hussain Khansaheb, who will be teaching the aspiring sitar players, has over 35 years of experience in playing the Sitar and has played in leading hotels located & concerts across the world. His skill has brought him to Singapore, Hong Kong, Cairo and Dubai. He also performed in a concert with the legendary singer Ustad Ghulam Ali in Delhi.
Habib Khan, General Manager, Orient Guest House, said: “We are glad to launch the sitar classes this year and invites kids and adults to enroll for them to learn how to play this popular musical instrument. The sitar is considered a difficult instrument to master. It requires good dexterity and flexibility in the fingers because the notes are spaced far apart. The strings also need a lot of pressure placed on them to hold them down. Playing the sitar has its own technique so I am sure a lot of residents will be thrilled to learn the skills.”
The sitar is over 400 years old and is traditionally used in Hindustani classical music. Its music is considered to be emotional and should be played in a heartfelt manner. Ravi Shankar is one of the most famous sitar players familiar to the western world. He taught George Harrison of The Beatles how to play the instrument, incorporated the instrument into several Beatles songs such as Norwegian Wood. Other rock groups such as The Rolling Stones and Metallica have sitar music in several of their songs.
