At the launch of the first Thai Fruit Promotion, held at Dusit Thani Dubai on Sunday 15 September 2013, H.E Warawudh Chuwiruch, Ambassador of Thailand to the UAE announced that more than 20 varieties of tropical fruit are available in UAE restaurants and supermarkets, with 8 varieties selected for patrons of participating restaurants to enjoy complimentary samples during the September promotion.
“As a leading organic-food-producing country in Southeast Asia, organic fruits from Thailand are becoming a popular export” commented His Excellency. “Thailand enjoys a year-round tropical climate with no extreme temperatures and only a few ‘dry’ months” he continued, “which means that pretty much anything grows all year round. Many Thai fruit growers are also turning to organic agriculture, serving the growing health consciousness and environmental concerns of consumers around the world”.
The Thai Fruit Promotion 2013 follows on from the “Thailand: Kitchen of the World” promotion, aimed at raising awareness of Thai produce overseas and introducing the wide variety of fruits available directly to consumers. The promotion also aims to collect feedback from diners enjoying the Thai fruits, enabling the Department of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Thailand to better support the tastes of the UAE market.
From 15 September 2013, a selection of fresh fruits from Thailand will be distributed to participating Thai Restaurants, who will offer guests complimentary fresh cut fruits with their meal. As well as encouraging them to taste the different fruits available, guests will be offered a short questionnaire to complete on their familiarity with Thai fruits, which will enter them into a lucky draw to attend the Amazing Thailand Food Festival at Dusit Thani Dubai on 30thSeptember 2013.
Heading the delegation in Dubai for the Thai Fruits Festival launch, Mrs Supaporn Pimoonlikit, Inspector General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives Thailand, commented :
“The UAE represents an important export market for Thai fruits and other agricultural produce, demonstrated here today by this high level delegation from Thailand. One of our objectives of this promotion is to introduce customers to the wide variety, quality and taste of Thai fruits, and we have brought over two thousand kilos of fresh fruits to Dubai to give away during the festival. “
Over 15 Thai restaurants in Dubai have participated in the promotion.
Fresh fruits from Thailand are available in most of the key supermarkets around the UAE, identified by the ‘Product of Thailand’ stickers.
