Record Breaking Numbers for TriYAS 2014 by Daman’s Activelife
Fourth annual TriYAS attracts 30% more participants
Abu Dhabi, Yas Marina Circuit (Wednesday, 26 February, 2014) – A record 1,300 triathletes will participate in the fourth TriYAS by Activelife triathlon next Friday, 28th February. The event held at Yas Marina Circuit, is the only day-to-night triathlon held in the region and welcomes athletes as young as 11-years old.
“TriYAS by Activelife is a great event and a thirty percent increase in participants is a testament to its success. We’ve seen numbers increase annually since the event started in 2011, but this is the largest rise we’ve seen to date,” said Nick McElwee, Director of Marketing and Communications at Yas Marina Circuit. “We believe the two main success factors for the event are race accessibility and the unique setting Yas Marina Circuit offers.”
Title sponsor, Activelife, is an initiative by the National Health Insurance Company – Daman which aims to mobilise the UAE community to lead a healthy lifestyle.
Dr. Sven Rohte, Chief Commercial Officer of Daman said: “TriYAS continues to evolve as a major event in the Abu Dhabi sporting calendar and the record number of entrants this year is indicative of the community’s focus on health and fitness. Given the number of people training for the triathlon at TrainYAS by Activelife over the past few weeks, we are sure that we will have a great race this year.”
Each year the race attracts people from across the U.A.E, the region and from further afar. With a number of different entry categories, the race is designed to be accessible for all, from young to old, and novice to professional.
“Not only is it a great race for experienced triathletes, we also work hard to ensure that everyone, no matter the skill level, can feel comfortable running their own race, at their own pace,” said Abdulla Al Shammari, Youth Community Manager at Yas Marina Circuit. . “This year we have seen an increased number of first timers entering the race, with over fifty percent of entries in the shorter sprint category. It’s really great to see the people of Abu Dhabi getting out there and giving it a go.”
Held on Abu Dhabi’s picturesque Yas Island, the course takes participants in a swim through Yas Marina, followed by cycling and running legs around the world famous Formula 1™ track at Yas Marina Circuit.
Along with the record number of participants, organisers will also welcome a team from Tri Yas’s sister triathlon, Nations Tri in the US. The team will include Mike Stanek, last year’s winner of the Etihad Airways Tri Club Challenge in Washington DC.
Spectators are encouraged to come down to the circuit to support the racers, with a number of great vantage points, and enjoy the over track festivities. A Surf Zone, Bungee Run, an Adventure HQ Climbing Wall, cheerleaders, live music, a special zone for the kids, and a variety of food will be on offer in the entertainment area.
TriYAS by Activelife takes place this Friday, 28 February, gates at Yas Marina Circuit open 12 noon to 9.00pm. For more information please visit www.yasmarinacircuit.ae.
