Rosewood Abu Dhabi celebrates the spirit of Ramadan with unique art exhibition by Bassam Al-Selawi
Bassam Al-Selawi’s Shadow Sculptures exhibition being showcased at Rosewood Abu Dhabi until August 15
Abu Dhabi, August 1, 2013 – To celebrate the holy month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, Rosewood Abu Dhabi is hosting Shadow Sculptures, a unique art exhibition by renowned Jordanian artist Bassam Al-Selawi, until August 15. The collection comprises seven four-dimensional art pieces, which combine modern sculpture techniques with verses from the Quran, written in Arabic calligraphy.
In the Shadow Sculptures exhibition, a spotlight is projected on the sculpted verses to create a singular figure. The technique, which was invented by Al-Selawi, shows how sculptures and their respective shadows interrelate, thus creating a visual narrative and illustrating each other in an unparalleled four-dimensional way.
Al-Selawi, who holds a degree in Ceramic Sculpture from the Fine Arts Department of Yarmouk University, is currently the applied arts manager at the Abu Dhabi Art Hub. Al-Selawi has previously created 80 life-size sculptures and murals for Jordan’s La Storia History Museum.
Shadow Sculptures will be exhibited at Rosewood Abu Dhabi until Thursday, August 15. Entry to the exhibition will be complimentary for guests and visitors of the hotel.
