Six Senses Spa Opens at The Alpina Gstaad
Six Senses Spa Opens at The Alpina Gstaad Asian Sensibility Meets Swiss Alpine Style
11 October 2012 – The Alpina Gstaad, the first newly built luxury hotel to open in Gstaad in 100 years, will welcome a Six Senses Spa on 1 December 2012.
The 2,000 square metre spa will be expertly integrated into the hotel's cosy but luxurious setting and its simple design will combine the spirit of the surrounding Alpine environment with an Eastern flair, thereby creating a secluded, warm and natural ambience.
"The Alpina Gstaad will be the first luxury hotel in Gstaad to have a spa managed by one of the world's foremost names in wellness," explained Onno Poortier, the hotel owner's advisor and representative. "We chose to partner with Six Senses because we share the same philosophy and vision: to offer our very discerning clientele a new kind of spa experience that is truly holistic, deeply personalised and providing a life-changing rejuvenation."
Reflecting the Six Senses Spas' philosophy, leading Thai designers P49 Deesign have only used natural and (wherever possible) locally-sourced materials throughout. Local Swiss pine wood will evoke a sense of place, with a darker wood colour as a nod to oriental design language. The Swiss backdrop has provided inspiration for other design features such as the changing rooms with carved rock basins, honey marble lamps and rough natural timber plinths. In the chalet-style treatment rooms, local design is evident with robust timber beams, while unique silhouette art from the region has been developed into an inspired lighting feature.
At the entrance to the spa, P49 Deesign has created a bespoke "Tree of Life" design element which represents the universal concept of life, growth and vitality. Unusual artwork also flows from one space to the next, acting as a silent guide through the spa.
The Six Senses Spa will offer a wide range of signature and locally-inspired treatments in each of the 12 dedicated treatment rooms. Highlights include Ayurveda, colour therapy, colonic hydrotheraphy and the classic Swiss massage. Specialist results-driven programmes such as detox, weight-loss and fitness will also feature on the menu and be supported through workshops and individual consultations.
The Alpina Gstaad's younger guests will benefit from the Kids Spa menu focussed on specialised children's treatments under parental guidance. In addition, the spa will offer a floatation room, a Hammam, a salt room, an indoor swimming pool, a studio for Yoga, Pilates and Aerobics as well as a juice bar.
"We are delighted to be working with The Alpina Gstaad and their team" said Bernhard Bohnenberger, President of Six Senses Resorts and Spas. "Their goal is to set a completely new standard of distinction and authenticity. This goes hand-in-hand with the Six Senses' philosophy of creating harmonious and sensual spaces that adapt seamlessly with the local culture and surroundings to deliver unique and memorable spa experiences. Our spa at The Alpina Gstaad will carefully merge local traditions with Six Senses' signature features to delight guests from around the world."
