The region’s best go Head2Head at Yas Marina Circuit
Team Sheikh Hasher Al Maktoum and Craig Lowndes place 1st overall in exceptional motorsport challenge
Abu Dhabi, 10 April, 2012: Some of the world’s and the region’s best motorsport racers competed this past Sunday in the Etihad Airways Head2Head Challenge at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit.
As the first pan-GCC, multi-disciplinary motorsport challenge, the Etihad Airways Head2Head Challenge saw 13 drivers from 8 countries team up in a battle to be the best motorsport team in five categories including karting, drag racing, a pit stop challenge, drifting, and sprint races in the Formula Yas 3000.
Sheikh Hasher Al Maktoum and Australian Supercar driver Craig Lowndes of Australia placed first to take out overall team honours. Finnish F1 legend Mika Salo and Saudi Arabian driver Saeed Almouri came in a respectable second place while Italian F1 driver Vitantonio Liuzzi and Head2Head teammate Hamed Al Wahaibi of Oman finished up third.
Also joining the winners of the Challenge were a host of regional and international motorsport identities that included Australian V8 Supercar driver Lee Holdsworth, UAE nationals Sheikh Khalid Al Qassimi, Khalid Al Qubaisi, Juma Ali Al Dhaheri and Saeed Al Mehairi, Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari of Qatar and Raed Raffii of Bahrain.
The Etihad Airways Head2Head Challenge was organised in Abu Dhabi as part of special tourism promotion organised by Yas Marina Circuit in conjunction with partners Etihad Airways and Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (ADTCA).
While not open to the public, motorsport fans worldwide will be able to catch all of the action of the Etihad Airways Head2Head Challenge through a number of international outlets including Sunrise TV, Australia’s number 1 breakfast show and Etihad Airways inflight entertainment.
