Launches Today with Tempting Line-Up of Activities
Aspiring chefs, families and foodies can look forward to 12 days of free interactive masterclasses, cooking demos, dining etiquette workshops, competitions, food sampling and more
Dubai, UAE September 11, 2012 – ‘Treat’ – the BurJuman World Food Fest 2012 launches its line-up of fantastic foodie events today, kicking off with the first masterclass on Modern German by Chef Uwe Micheel, President of the Emirates Culinary Guild and Director of Kitchens, Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Deira Creek.
With a mouth-watering selection of Modern German and Vietnamese recipe creations on the cards for day one – including Chicken Escalope, Pan-Fried Fillet of Salmon, Grilled Lemon Grass Chicken Satays, Vegetable Spring Rolls, Ga Hap Ga and Com Chay – the food festival promises to keep things tasty during the entire 12-day event.
Treat is the first festival to offer such an extended and interactive opportunity to aspiring chefs, enthusiasts and families to take part in such a wide variety of top quality instruction on various aspects of food and dining from leading industry experts – at no cost to the participants.

Bringing a packed schedule of themed masterclasses and demos to the table until September 16th are chefs from some of Dubai’s leading 5-star hotels. Following the opening day’s presentations by Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Deira Creek will be The Ritz-Carlton DIFC (Arabic & French cuisine); Dubai Marriott Hotels (Italian); Dusit Thani Dubai (Thai & International Desert); Kempinski Hotel & Residences Palm Jumeirah (Seafood) and Meliá Dubai (International & Indian Fusion).
The Masterclasses will take place daily at the specially created Teka Chef’s Theatre (opposite Virgin Megastore) from 4pm-5pm and will be open to audience participation on a first-come-first-served basis (up to 6 participants per masterclass). This will be followed by three cooking demos – each an hour long – taking place daily at 5.30pm; 6.45pm; 8.15pm.
On September 17th, for one evening only, will be a special series of masterclasses on Hot and Cold Canapes conducted by the International Centre for Culinary Arts Dubai, one of the Top 10 culinary institutes in the World. Six half-hour ICCA masterclasses will take place at the Teka Chef’s Theatre on September 17, at 4pm, 4.45pm, 5.30pm, 6.45pm, 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
Those looking to get party perfect can hone their skills as the perfect host or guest by heading to the mall’s South Village for ‘Table Setting & Culinary Etiquette’ - a series of informative workshops by leading etiquette institute Finishing Touch, on everything from table settings for different menus and occasions, special festive table decorations, creative centrepieces, cutlery usage, napkin folding, tea etiquette, cocktail party etiquette, creative ways of using fruit and vegetables for decorations and more. The free half-hour workshops will take place daily from September 11th – 17th at 5.45pm, 7pm and 8.45pm. Tableware and props used will be provided by lifestyle stores Villeroy & Boch and The One.
Kids’ can look forward to a sweet surprise on both Treat weekends. A special kids’ corner set up Thursday to Saturday from 5-9pm by Kitsch Cupcakes will offer the mall’s youngest visitors a fun way to learn creative cupcake decorations. Kids can decorate their own cupcakes and carry them home to tuck into later.
There’ll also be plenty of chances for visitors to walk home with some amazing prizes. Daily ‘Guess The Ingredients’ competitions taking place from September 11th – 17th will let visitors test their sense of smell and touch on exotic ingredients. All event visitors will also get a chance to win a fantastic hamper of AED25,000 worth of mouth-watering goodies, dining vouchers and more.
Leading F&B and cooking appliance brands including Illy Coffee, Kcal, Dole, Mani Foods, Kenwood and Afrina Sweets will also be sampling and selling their products all across the mall for the entire duration of the event.
Treat will conclude with the highly anticipated BurJuman Junior Chef 2012 competition, taking place from September 18th – 22nd. The competition will see a total of 300 participants from over 40 hotels battle it out in a series of creative challenges such as wedding cake decoration, bread making, Emirati cuisine, Arabic Mezze creation, petits fours and praline displays, fruit and vegetable carving, sustainable fish dishes and lots more. The top participating hotels and hospitality groups include Jumeirah Group, Rotana Group – Dubai & Abu Dhabi, Radisson Blu Dubai Deira Creek, Miramar Al Aqah Beach Resort Fujairah, The Address Dubai Mall and Raffles Hotel Dubai.
