UAE MOTORISTS WARNED NOT TO IGNORE CAR MAINTENANCE AFTER FOG, SANDSTORM THREAT TO VISIBILITY ON THE ROADS
• Dubai Autodrome backs Bosch call for drivers to get their cars checked for damaged wiper blades
Dubai, UAE: After recent fog in the UAE following a spate of summer sandstorms, motorists have been warned not to ignore basic car maintenance in order to ensure maximum visibility on the roads.
Bosch, which operates a nationwide network of workshops in the Emirates, says windshield wipers are an integral part of vehicle safety but can be damaged by the region’s harsh weather conditions, even when not in use.
The company has urged UAE motorists to get their cars checked for cracked and brittle wiper blades, and the call has been backed by Dubai Autodrome which promotes road safety year round.
“Good visibility on the road is so important, and while windscreen wipers aren’t used in this region as much as in other parts of the world, the recent fog and sandstorms were a reminder of how vital they are,” said Dubai Autodrome spokesman Paul Velasco.
“The very high temperatures can damage the wiper blades and reduce their effectiveness. Our advice to motorists is to service their cars to the manufacturer’s specifications to make sure windscreen wipers and other vital parts are regularly maintained.”
Andreas Bodemer, Regional President for Bosch Automotive Aftermarket, Middle East and Africa, says just as snow and ice in other regions damages wiper blades and poses a threat to visibility on the roads, the climate in the Gulf countries has similar effects.
“Wipers in this part of the world are constantly exposed to sunlight and very high temperatures which can cause degradation and cracking, and a damaged windshield wiper can hamper visibility,” said Bodemer.
“In heat the rubber dries out completely and hardens which leads to unsatisfactory wiping and rattling. Ozone and UV radiation breaks down the chemical structure of the wiper and leads to cracks, roughness and brittleness.”
Bosch is a leader in wiper innovation and has been manufacturing electric windshield wiping systems for more than 80 years.
Bosch wiper blades are tested for their ability to withstand stress over 750,000 wipe cycles. The wiper rubber compound contains substance that protect against ozone and these significantly extend the service life of wiper rubber. Providing top value for money on the market, Bosch offers high quality wiper blades in its ECO, Aerotwin and Aerofit range for passenger cars and commercial vehicles.
Wiper blade service intervals range anywhere from six months to a year, dependent upon driving conditions and the quality of the wiper, and Bosch service centres are present across the UAE for maintenance checks.
