Valentine’s Day menu at Quest is homage to six romantic films
Abu Dhabi’s Chef of the Year 2012 celebrates cinema, cuisine and romance through a specially created new signature menu
(Abu Dhabi, 20 January 2013) Quest, Jumeirah at Etihad Towers’ signature modern Asian cuisine restaurant headed by Chef de Cuisine Benjamin Whatt, will create a special signature Valentine’s Day menu that has been inspired by some of the world’s most celebrated and cherished love and comedy-romance movies. The ingredients, flavour combinations and visual presentation of the six courses will be based on the most poignant scenes of six romance-themed movies that Chef Benjamin has personally connected with: The Notebook, Moulin Rouge, Love Actually, Romeo & Juliet, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and Chocolat. The set menu for two will only be available on Valentine’s Day, February 14th, 2013, with options for beverage pairing.
The gourmet celebration of love story telling commences with a nod to the 2004 Nick Cassavetes directed The Notebook, featuring a foie gras, honey and rice terrine masterfully presented as a book, from which the love story and the evening unfolds. Baz Luhrmann's 2001 hit Moulin Rouge follows with scarlet culinary overtones provided by red mullet and turmeric coconut nage. The 2003 Richard Curtis directed comedy romance Love Actually, set during a frantic month before Christmas, provides inspiration for a “Christmas” venison and “Chestnuts Roasting” oyster sauce dish, uniquely prepared in Benjamin Whatt’s signature style. The following course pays its respects to George Cukor’s 1936 classic Romeo & Juliet with a violet elixir shooter titled “violet & mint poison”, while the all-time favourite Blake Edwards directed Breakfast at Tiffany’s, starring Audrey Hepburn, provides the impetus for Benjamin Whatt’s own “Breakfast Cereal” dessert, accompanied with croissant flavoured ice-cream. Finally, the ultimate food-romance film, Chocolat closes the culinary feature with hot chocolate and smoked paprika with truffles.
Says Quest Chef de Cuisine Benjamin Whatt of Jumeirah at Etihad Towers: “Each of these films has a special meaning to me. The beginning of a new love story is often sparked by a first date in the form of a shared dinner or visit to the cinema. I wanted to conceptualise and celebrate these wonderous moments in a menu.”
