YAS MARINA CIRCUIT’S HOT ROD FULLER MAKES IT TO THE SEMI-FINALS IN DENVER
Fuller and team finish third and continue to build on success in the US NHRA Nationals Tour
MORRISON, Colorado (July 26, 2011) – Hot Rod Fuller concluded the weekend at Bandimere Speedway with his best result of the season, thus far. Competing in the 32nd annual Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals in Morrison, Colorado, Fuller took the Yas Marina Circuit Top Fuel Dragster through to the Semi-finals.
The weekend of racing started off well with Fuller posting a 4.114 ET (Elapsed Time) at 279.15 mph, taking him to seventh position in the first round of qualifying. In the remaining qualifying races on Friday and Saturday, Hot Rod posted a 4.159 ET at 222 mph, a 4.645 ET at 172.98 mph, and in the fourth qualifying round, a 4.093 ET at 299 mph, leaving the Abu Dhabi driver in eleventh place going into Sunday’s eliminations.
Fuller managed to take out Dom Lagana in the first round of eliminations, launching strong off the start line and making a quick, clean pass (4.059 ET at 300 mph) for the win. He went on to beat Doug Kalitta in the second round of eliminations with a 4.116 ET at 288 mph, taking the Yas Marina Circuit team into the semi-finals for the first time this season.
In a closely fought duel with seven-time NHRA Top Fuel Champion, Tony Schumacher, Fuller lost the semi-final round by a mere 0.017 seconds, with a time of 4.032 ET and 296.70 mph, against the US Army driver’s 4.015 ET and 308.70 mph.
Commenting on the weekend’s success, Hot Rod Fuller said, “We made our fastest run of the weekend in the Semi-finals and, you know, it was a really great run. The track was great. At Bandimere Speedway, they have a cooling system under the track that goes out to about 200 feet, so despite the hot weather, our races were pretty good.”
Fuller continued, “Two out of the last 3 times that we’ve raced in Denver we’ve made it to the Semi-finals, so this was a good weekend for us to continue that streak. I was very proud of everyone this weekend; we didn’t luck our way into the semi’s, we really earned it. For it to be only our third race of the year, we are doing well.”
The team’s next event will be in Brainerd, Minnesota for the 30th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway, Aug 18-21.
