Hailing from Bruges, Belgium, Kurt Vieren was recently appointed as the General Manager of the Four Points by Sheraton Penang – due to be opened this October 2013. Kurt’s career with Starwood Hotels & Resorts began in year 2000 when he was hired as the Front Office Manager at Le Méridien Grand Hotel Nuernberg in Germany. Since then, he has not looked back and instead worked hard to grow his career throughout Europe, United States of America and South East Asia.
In 2008, he was transferred to The Palace San Francisco, A Luxury Collection Hotel as its Hotel Manager. During his tenure at The Palace San Francisco, Kurt was committed to enhancing the hotel’s status as a modern luxury hotel in San Francisco that will increase rooms and food and beverage profitability through redesigning and realigning the overall hotel and restaurant concept. While he was there, he also took on the roles of brand trainer and brand champion for the Luxury Collection standards. Under his determined guidance, there was a significant improvement in their Guest Service Index year over year which rose from 8.25 to 8.45.
After 3 years in this iconic hotel, Kurt’s love for Asia proved much too strong to resist. Hence, it brought him back to this part of the globe, with his last posting as the Hotel Manager at the award winning Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur Hotel.
Armed with more than 15 years of work experience in the hospitality industry, Kurt is very excited to put all that knowledge into use with his pre-opening team at the Four Points by Sheraton Penang. He looks forward to spearheading the opening of this hotel, driving it to greater heights whilst learning more about Penang’s traditions and its colourful heritage. Being a foodie and a Durian lover, Kurt looks forward to exploring Malaysia’s well-known food haven!
