HOUSE LIMIT: The amount of charges a Hotel allows a guest to incur prior to requiring payment in part or full. Fixed by the hotel.

HOTEL REPRESENTATIVE: A person, firm or corporation designated by a Hotel to provide tour operators, travel agents and general public with reservations in the Hotel.

HUBBART FORMULA: A popular room rating formula depending upon accurate assumptions of operating expenses, room sales and desired returns on an investment.

HOUSE USE: Room being used by staff at no charge.

INFORMATION RACK: A file that lists all the registered guests and their room numbers arranged in alphabetical order.

INFORMATION SLIP: The second part of a two part folio indicating the guest name, room no., room rate and the check-out date.

KEY RACK: A storage and organised index of the Hotel’s room keys.

KING ROOM: A room with a king sized bed (78” x 80”). May be occupied by one or two people.

LETABLE ROOMS: Rooms available for sale.

LEFT LUGGAGE ROOM: Guest luggage kept in the custody of the hotel at the bell desk.

LATE ARRIVAL: A guest with a reservation who is expected to arrive after the hotels designated cut off time and so notifies the hotel.

LATE CHARGE: A sale charge posted after the guest has checked out.

LETTER OF CREDIT: A company letter Authorizing direct bill privileges for its representatives must be approved by the front office manager or the lobby manager.

LOGBOOK: A daily records of problems or situations that have occurred in the front office and is to be communicated to others.

MAKE UP: A through and routine room clean up.

MASTER FOLIO: A hotel account record used to maintain specific transactions for a group.

MULTIPLE RESERVATIONS: A number of reservations usually made under a group name may be individually reserved.

MINUS: An occupancy position in the hotel when guest expected are more than the number of rooms available.

NO-SHOW: A reservation that is not used or cancelled by the guest.

NIGHT AUDIT: A daily reconciliation of accounts receivable and completed during the late night shift including posting of all taxes and restaurant charges and also balancing the day’s posting activities.
