IHG Hotels at Dubai Festival City Appoint New Area General Manager
Thomas Schmelter will oversee four properties and the Dubai Festival Arena.
DUBAI, UAE, October 2020:IHG Hotels at Dubai Festival City announces the appointment of veteran hotelier Thomas Schmelter as Area General Manager of IHG Hotels at Dubai Festival City overseeing four properties and the Dubai Festival Arena.
Originally from Germany, Thomas joined the cluster Hotels on October 1 2020 and is responsible to drive the performance of InterContinental, InterContinental Residences Suites, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and Dubai Festival Arena by InterContinental at Dubai Festival City with a total number of 1,600 rooms and more than 10,000 sqm of event venues.
Thomas is a seasoned hotelier and comes to this position with more than 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry within IHG. Thomas has worked in ten different countries in various senior management roles between corporate offices and hotels. He moved to Dubai from his recent role as Senior Director of operations - South East Asia based in the IHG Singapore corporate office.
Thomas is married and has two sons. He is passionate about fitness and loves running and spending time in the gym. He also enjoys exploring new restaurants and bars, especially the hidden gems in a city. An avid traveller, Thomas loves to explore new destinations across the world.
