Job Description For Fitness Centre & Spa - Assistant/Attendant
POSITION SUMMARY
Serve as a key resource for all recreation activities facilitated on the property. Provide information to guests about available recreation facilities, which may include pools, beach, entertainment zone/game-room, fitness center, and child activities center. Encourage, recruit, register, and schedule guests to participate in recreation activities. Promote a fun and relaxing atmosphere for guests. Promote the rules and regulations of the recreation facilities intended for the safety and welfare of guests and members. Observe activity in the recreational facility and respond appropriately in accordance with local operating procedure in the event of an emergency. Provide cashier services when working in facilities that include point of sales transactions. Assist when hosting private functions within the recreation facilities with group activities and events. Be aware of possible situations where guests are not able to safely participate in an activity and inform supervisor/manager Provide assistance to injured guests until the arrival of emergency medical services. Clean and maintain recreational facilities, equipment and supplies.
Report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to manager; complete safety training and certifications. Follow company policies and procedures; ensure uniform and personal appearance is clean and professional; maintain confidentiality of proprietary information; protect company assets. Welcome and acknowledge all guests according to company standards; anticipate and address guests' service needs; assist individuals with disabilities; thank guests with genuine appreciation. Speak with others using clear and professional language; answer telephones using appropriate etiquette. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others; support team to reach common goals. Process payments for rental equipment, recreation activities, facility rentals, or retail sales. Comply with quality assurance expectations and standards. Read and visually verify information in a variety of formats (e.g., small print). Visually inspect tools, equipment, or machines (e.g., to identify defects). Enter and locate work-related information using computers and/or point of sale systems. Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire work shift. Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 25 pounds without assistance and objects weighing in excess of 25 pounds with assistance. Grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying size and weight, requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Move through narrow, confined, or elevated spaces. Move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces as well as up and down stairs and/or service ramps. Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. Perform other reasonable job duties as requested.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Maintain complete knowledge of all hotel features / services, hours of operation, all Spa services, Fitness Centre programs, pool, scheduled daily group activities, cosmetic / product line, and retail items.
- Greet each guest with a warm welcome and fond farewell.
- Acknowledge guests however busy and whatever time of day; promote positive guest relations.
- Maintain complete knowledge and comply with hotel and departmental policies and procedures.
- Notify supervisor and engineering of any safety hazards and maintenance needs
- Perform any task deemed necessary by management
- Obtain assigned float and ensure accuracy of contracted monies. Maintain and keep cash register secure at all times.

- Set up workstations and retail with necessary supplies. Maintain cleanliness throughout shift
- Legibly complete requisition for additional supplies/materials and submit to Supervisor.
- Review in-house guest list (especially VIPs and repeat guests) and be familiar with guest names and room locations.
- Answer departmental telephone within 3 rings, using correct telephone etiquette.
- Maintain cleanliness of Fitness Centre, Spa and Locker Rooms.
- Consistently train new staff.
- Conduct daily & month-end inventory count of retail items.
- Accommodate all guest requests courteously and efficiently; anticipate guests' needs and respond promptly. Offer assistance at all times as specified in departmental standards.
- Handle guest complaints by following the instant pacification procedures and insuring guest satisfaction.
- Provide locker keys, RC bottle water, towels, headsets and Oshibori
- Dispose of any dirty linens to the proper area.
- Ensure each guest has a workout towel and an ample amount of water.
- Amenity presentation in Locker Room and Gym.
- Ability to adapt to priority changes of workflow or requirements.
- Ability to exert physical effort in transporting/handling equipment and supplies.
- Provide instruction of fitness equipment while keeping safety in mind at all times.
- Ability to adapt fitness routines for injured or specifically challenged individuals.
- Ability to focus attention on guests' needs while remaining calm and courteous.
- Ability to prioritize, organize and follow up.
- Ability to perform job functions with minimal supervision.
- Inform Engineering and Supervisor of all maintenance needs, work orders and equipment malfunctions.
- Ability to endure abundant physical movements throughout the work areas.
- Ability to remain at assigned post when specified.
- Ability to work cohesively with co-workers and other departments as part of a team.
- Obtain clean towels from Laundry and transport to Fitness Centre; fold and stack linens according to procedures. Ensure correct par levels for expected business.
- Check restrooms, showers and locker areas throughout the shift for supply levels, cleanliness and working order; rectify any deficiencies and clean sections as assigned.
- Monitor all guest activity in assigned work area; be alert to any sign of trouble. Ensure safety of guests and enforcement of Fitness Centre and Pool rules and precautions according to department standards.
- Set up pool furniture, towels and umbrellas according to department standards; inspect cleanliness and condition and rectify any deficiencies.
- Utilize first aid and lifesaving procedures when situations demand such.
- Successful completion of the training/certification process.
- Enter guestrooms to run all butler drawn bath requests.
- Conduct month-end linen inventory count.
- Follow all company policies and procedures.
SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS - Attend all meetings and trainings.
- Contribute to Great Idea Program, preference collection and Wow Story.
- Support and participate in hotel initiated activities.
- Assist the hotel in providing lateral service to departments in need.
- Resolve and record all guest opportunities in Mystique database.
- Maintain complete knowledge and comply with all hotel and departmental policies and procedures.
- All other assignments as delegated by the Manager and Supervisor.
- Notify supervisor of any safety hazards
- Inquire about contradictions prior to service
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Related Work Experience: No related work experience.
- Supervisory Experience: No supervisory experience.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS - License or Certification: CPR Certification
- First Aid Certification
- Recreation Equipment
- Any certification or training required by local and state agencies.
